Summer Tablescapes

Here in the Midwest we are so excited for nice weather that we like to take advantage of those sunny warm days dining outdoors!! On a beautiful Midwest summer evening, entertaining outdoors is something that we both enjoy. Bringing the dining experience outside makes you want to invite your family and friends over for any summer celebration. Through the years, we have all collected summer dinnerware. It’s fun to create an easy summer tablescape using all of the pieces one has. There are times when Mother Nature decides that we will have to set up indoors, using your summer dinnerware creates a such a cheery tablescape. Today we would like to share with you our versions of a summer tablescape for both outside and inside when necessary.

Summer Tablescapes

We both love setting our tables for summer alfresco dining and all the major holidays! When you are setting up for a dinner outside you want your dinner plates and accessories to look good but still be functional. There are so many great pieces designed for outdoor entertaining there shouldn’t be a problem finding something you love. Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Frontgate and Crate & Barrel have so many beautiful pieces! Juliska has a beautiful acrylic line and is a favorite. Vietri is another favorite for vases and platters. Target also has some beautiful summer pieces.

Bev’s style is more sleek and minimalistic and Val’s likes mixing patterns and using color…both looks are equally beautiful! Nature is also a beautiful backdrop for dining outdoors…Mother Nature supplies all the color and drama you need to create a beautiful dining experience!

Bringing the Summer TableScape Indoors

When the weather decides that you are eating indoors, simply set the table using your beautiful pieces. The woven charger plates work well with the rattan charger plates. By adding the Juliska Bamboo Caning Melamine salad plate, all of the different patterns do work together because of the natural color palette.

Centerpiece Ideas

Centerpiece ideas can be as simple as filling a beautiful vase with fresh flowers. Another idea is a low container packed with succulents. This makes for easy table discussion. Other simple ideas-lemons and limes in a bowl, fruit in a bowl, floating candles, votives on mirrors.

Summer Menu Ideas

Entertaining in the summer either outside or inside calls for menu ideas that are easy to serve and look fresh and taste delicious. An antipasto salad is an easy dish for a large group that looks great in any large salad bowl. Place a glass in the middle of the bowl, place breadsticks in the glass and assemble the salad around the glass. This makes a nice centerpiece too. Add a platter of grilled chicken with sides of hummus, tabouleh and pita bread for any simple summer meal. Place bite sized dessert items-brownies, cookies, eclairs, macaroons, fruit or nuts on a round tray and place flowers around the platter. Another centerpiece idea as well.
