Lip care is so important all year round but more important in the winter months. The cold wind, lack of humidity along with our furnaces running constantly makes for a super dry environment certainly not friendly to our lips!
Did you know that your lips are one of the most sensitive parts of our body. Our lips are highly affected by changes in temperature, lack of humidity and homes that are excessively dry.
Taking care of your lips is so important during the winter months. Chapped lips which are sore and painful sometimes cracking at the corners of your lips occurs which is very painful but also impacts your overall appearance.
Today we are going to share some of our best winter lip care tips for keeping your lips in the best possible shape this winter.
Best Lip Care For The Winter
What Causes Winter Lips
Winter causes dry skin which is basically leaching the moisture out of your skin creating dry, itchy and flaky skin. Chapping of the lips occurs when you are outside for extended periods of time in the cold air and the cold winds. The winter is like the perfect storm…cold air is less humid air so it depletes the moisture in your lips..coupled with the lack of humidity in our homes…hot showers and licking our lips too much and you get dry, chapped lips.
Low Humidity
The cold air in the winter is very dry making your lips dry also
Furnace
Your furnace keeps you warm but also dries out your lips at the same time
Not Hydrating Enough
We aren’t as thirsty in the winter because you not feeling overheated but you still need to hydrate to keep those lips from being dry
Winter Weather Conditions
It is so cold so in turn the air becomes dryer and the cold winds strip away the natural oils in your lip making them dry and chapped… your lips are always exposed
Lip Licking
You actually feel like you are moisturizing your lips but you are not…you are making the dryness worse!
How To Care For Lips In The Winter
Step 1 – Exfoliate
Here are some of the exfoliators we have used and liked. Remember to apply GENTLY!

Tatcha The Kissu Lip Scrub is one of Bev’s faves. This scrub also deeply nourishes lips to soften the lips and preps the lips for color and you favorite SPF products.
Fresh Sugar Lip Polish Exfoliator gets very high grades. Made of real brown sugar crystals it gently removes the flakes while nourishing with shea butter and jojoba oil. It is definitely a winner.
Step 2 – Lip Balm
We have tried all of these lip balms and they are wonderful in keeping your lips in tip top shape for the winter.
Laneige Lip Glowy Balm is our very favorite. It comes in six different colors and it makes your lips so soft, hydrated and glossy!
Kiehl’s Lip Balm is paraben free and scented! It makes the lips look and feel hydrated and has been around for a long time.
Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm gives you immediate softness and shine with a light pink color and a sweet sugar taste.

Step 3 – Apply An Overnight Lip Mask
When your lips are super dry applying a mask is probably a good idea so while you are sleeping the mask is doing it’s job. Here are some of our favorites.
Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask is very highly rated and it works! An overnight, leave on mask that comes in four scents.
Fresh Recovery Lip Mask is another product from the Fresh company that helps to make your lips healthy in the winter. It is a leave on mask that repairs those super dry lips overnight.
Tatchu The Kissu Lip Mask is one of Bev’s favorites. It plumps the lips and also helps to diminish lines around the lips. It is glossy and not very sticky too.
