Fall is officially here! We are so excited because the fall season is truly our favorite time of year! Some of the leaves have started turning and along with the cooler temperatures we know fall has arrived and it is time to pull out your seasonal decorations!
During the cooler months the family room or living room is where many people like to gather and spend time with family and friends. Your fireplace is the focal point of the room, sort of like the heart of the room. And we feel fireplace fall decor will be the first thing you see upon entering the room. A cozy fall mantel along with a roaring fire will put you in the “fall” mood pretty quickly and help you welcome the season. Now all you need to complete the picture is a few lighted scented candles, a cup of mulled cider and a bowl of hearty chili! Check out our post on Fall Decor and Food for additional inspiration!
Here we are going to share some of our ideas for a fall mantel! You can also pick up a few more entertaining ideas by reading our post “Charcuterie Boards Your Guests Will Fall For“
Fall Fireplace Decorations
Traditional Fall Fireplace
Faux Pumpkins, Gourds and Foliage and More!
Faux Fall Garland
Fall Faux Wreaths
Val’s mantel pictured above is definitely a traditional fall mantel. The items you will need to create a fall mantel are faux pumpkins, gourds, wheat stacks, and dried flowers or foliage. The beauty of decorating for fall is there is no right or wrong way to style the mantel. Let your personality shine!
Val layers the faux pumpkins, gourds and foliage along the top of the mantel. The faux leaves or dried flowers are sprayed out on either side of the mantel. Rustic lanterns with cream colored faux candles are on the hearth. A cute scarecrow sitting on his chair with orange string lighting wrapped around him adorns the opposite side of the mantel and adds a festive feeling! When the fireplace is turned on (hers is gas), the candles are lit and the scarecrow lights plugged in the fireplace adds warmth and coziness to the room.
Farmhouse Inspired Fireplace
The fireplace above has more of a farmhouse feel. A cute little scarecrow adds to the fun vibe of the fireplace but you can really get creative! You can add faux pumpkins, garland, branches with acorns on them, or seasonal flowers! Although not featured on this fireplace pumpkins with buffalo plaid or felt pumpkin can add more of that farmhouse charm and coziness. Check out some examples below!
Ideas To Create A Fall Fireplace
Use various types of material such as pumpkins and gourds to create a display of color in various fall hues. Wheat bundles, berries, and straw looks amazing! Anything that nature offers this time of year is acceptable!
If you are not a big fan of the traditional fall hues a gathering of natural materials like faux white pumpkins, rustic materials like straw pumpkins, white hued birch wood branches, branches with acorn and brown maple leaf garland can be stunning!
Assemble the fall decor in varying sizes and shapes to create more interest.
Vases, wreaths, medium to tall candlesticks, small rustic boxes, signs or trays can be another way to add interest to your mantel.
Garland is an easy way to add more interest to your fall fireplace. Garland is plush and can be laid across the expanse of the fireplace mantel or draped underneath the mantel with hooks. Just make sure the garland is not too close to the fireplace.
Have fun doing it…the fall fireplace doesn’t have to be perfect!
Safety Precautions When Decorating Your Fall Fireplace
Keep anything that can start on fire at least three feet from the front of your fireplace. This also includes anything dangling from the mantel such as cloth, paper, wood or dried material such as straw or dried flowers.
Make sure the decorations you do put on the top of your mantel are secure to avoid them falling from the mantel to the front of the fireplace.
Always use faux candles and not wax candles.
Do not put anything on your mantel that your animals might be attracted too!
