Four Different Types of Belts

Different Types of Belts

It’s no surprise that we like to style certain outfits with belts. Bev actually has an entire drawer dedicated to holding all of her belts that she has collected through the years. It’s a wonderful accessory that can easily elevate an outfit and with proper care, they can last for many years. A belt is one accessory that helps build a timeless and classic wardrobe.

There are many belts to choose from, however, we have found that most belts can fit into four types/categories – The Basic Belt, the Statement Belt, the Unique Belt and the Designer Belt. The belt trends for this Fall are waist belts, wide belts and statement belts. If you are updating your belts or starting a belt collection, we hope this round-up helps with your choices.

How To Choose A Belt

Does a Belt have to Match your Shoes

Not always, however, most of the time we do match our belt to our shoes. A belt can be in a contrast color or add interest, just make sure it looks integral to the outfit.

What Belt to wear with Pants and Jeans and Skirts

Let the belt loop be your guide to choosing a belt for pants, jeans and skirts. The standard belt loop is 2 inches so look for a belt that is just smaller than this. We have many examples above of belts that will fit this size.

Belting over a Dress, Sweater or Blazer

We love this look, especially if you are wearing a monochromatic outfit. Adding a belt adds interest, proportion and defines your waist. Typically a wider belt- 2.5 inches or wider looks the best when styling your outfit.
