How To Quickly Organize Your Cleaning Supply Closet/Cabinet

Who doesn’t have a closet/cabinet that is brimming with cleaning supplies and stuff from two decades ago- but you just don’t want to throw it away because that one weird tool might just be the thing that holds your whole house together-Right?

Bev here with some easy tips for organizing all of those cleaning supplies- and it’s not throwing ALL of it away- just some of it.

Nate and I recently had our wood floors refinished on our first floor and this meant moving all of the furniture out. We soon remembered that all of the closets have wood flooring in them and that included a cleaning supply closet. So the closets were quickly emptied as well. I love organizing things, however, this cleaning supply closet was rather neglected over the years. It’s that project I was going to get to when our youngest went to kindergarten- 30 years ago. With the doors closed- we could easily ignore the chaos and add those weird tools to any plastic tray that was filled to the brim. And items from Costco have to be stored somewhere!!!

Here are some before and after photos – also, below are some tips for this project and products that I found very useful. Have fun.

Tips For Organizing Your Cleaning Supply Closet

First– Take everything out of the closet and measure the space on each shelf – Height and depth.

Second– Go to your favorite store that carries storage bins you like- consider size, color and materials. Purchase more than you think you need and purchase an assortment of sizes. I chose dark grey in plastic- so easy to clean. I do like the deeper bins so they can hold more.

Third– Get some trash bags, start organizing and throw away what hasn’t been used in a while. Cleaning products do lose their effectiveness over time. Remember to place lighter items on the top shelves. I organized products that were used together but you use your own system.

Fourth– Show each member of your house the new closet organization.- this should reduce endless questions about where everything is!!!

Thank you so much for taking time to read this post. Have a wonderful day!
