Leather and faux leather pants can be a fun alternative to denim! As we head into the fall season leather pants are an excellent option as the temperatures cool down. They look so great with blazers, sweaters and even your favorite comfy jean jacket.
We really like the beautiful shades of fall that many of the leather and faux leather pants are available in. We are a little obsessed with fall as we are only weeks away from the colors of the leaves on the trees changing, the bright blue skies and the crisp fall temperatures. We read once that there is almost a smell in the air in the Midwest as fall arrives and it is so true…is it the apples, the pumpkin and squash or just Mother Nature working her magic?? We don’t know but we love it!!
Getting back to leather pants and faux leather pants and their care. One of the questions asked most often is how to care for them. We decided to figure this out and share with you as we both own some faux leather pants and leather pants too!
How To Wash Leather Pants
We highly suggest you do not put authentic leather pants in the washing machine. This could potentially ruin the fabric and finish of your pants. They are too expensive so taking them to a professional dry cleaner would be our suggestion.
If you do want to clean your leather pants dust them by using a soft, dry cloth to wipe off any dust or debris. You can then wet a clean cloth and wipe in soft circular motions the finish on the pant and than hang dry.
How To Wash Faux Leather Pants
The faux leather pants we own have a care tag that clearly says no dry cleaning, no machine washing, no ironing or bleaching. We highly suggest you always read the care tags on your faux leather pants because every brand may have different care instructions.
If you can machine wash you faux leather pants here are some suggestions
Step # 1
Before washing your faux leather pants turn them inside out.
Step # 2
Put your faux leather pants in a mesh laundry bag so they don’t hook on anything and potentially tear.
Step # 3
Wash them by themselves in a washing machine set on delicate, low spin and cold water. Make sure you purchase a detergent that is formulated for delicate items.
Step # 4
Do not dry your faux leather pants in the dryer. Instead hang your faux leather pants on a hangar and air dry or lay them on a drying rack.
Step # 5
If you have a few wrinkles left on your faux leather pants there are a few ways you can address this issue. A steamer would be the best option but do not place the head of the steamer too close!
You can use the steam setting on your iron also but make sure you never let the iron touch the pant as that will be the end of the pants.
Step # 6
If the care tag suggests a dry cleaner then you may want to consider doing that!
