Invisalign- It’s More Than Just A Pretty Smile

Let’s start with what is Invisalign. Invisalign is the treatment process that gradually straightens your teeth by wearing a series of clear, removable aligners. In September 2021, Bev started her treatment plan with Invisalign through the dental office of Maggie Silvasi, DDS, PLLC and David Zamler DDS. Full disclosure here- Bev worked at that office for about 20 years as a dental hygienist, loved the patients and her co-workers and is a current patient there. Val is starting her treatment with Invisalign with Omran Hammoud,DDS. The reason for this is as you age your teeth may shift. Val found her teeth shifting on the bottom row toward the center which interferes with your bite and definitely will cause future issues if not addressed with Invisalign.
Smile- It’s Your Best Accessory
One thing most people who work in the dental field notice right away is a person’s smile and teeth and bite and the condition of gum tissue and how the teeth come together and if they are overlapped. They can’t help it, they come by it honestly- if they don’t notice, find a new dental home- haha! When people aren’t happy with their teeth, they smile a whole lot less. Kids smile an average of 400 times a day, a happy adult 40-50 times and a typical adult 20 times. Smiling boosts your mood and has improved health benefits.
Why Does Having Straight Teeth Matter & It’s Not About Appearances
Straight teeth are easier to keep clean, thus reducing the bacteria that contributes to developing gum disease and the relationship between oral health and systemic health is huge. Let’s face it, the bacteria in your mouth doesn’t stay there. A profound clinical observation- people with good oral health seemed to have a better handle on any systemic health situation.
What To Expect When You Are Straightening
Step One
From Invisalign-
” Your Invisalign-trained dentist or orthodontist will have a consultation with you. Your doctor will evaluate your smile and then map out a precise, customized digital treatment plan that showcases the step-by-step transformation of your smile. Once you approve your plan, your unique aligners will be created. You will wear each set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, changing to a new set of aligners every 1 to 2 weeks, as directed by your doctor. Each set of aligners will gently and gradually shift your teeth into place, according to your treatment plan, until you reach your beautiful new smile.”
Step Two
Up your home oral health regimen. Invest in a good Electric Toothbrush, Water flosser, Interdental cleaners, Dental Floss, mouthwash, a prescription strength Fluoride toothpaste and a denture brush. Bev’s picks are below. Always clean your teeth before placing the aligners back on, because you are wearing these things for hours at a time. Snacking and sipping on anything but water during the day is greatly reduced- it’s time consuming to remove then clean your teeth then put back on if you snack frequently. Going out to dinner is a challenge- honestly, Bev would take her’s off when she went out. Consult with your dentist if you find you aren’t wearing them for the allotted time- you may need to wear that set for more days.
More Essential Information
You won’t want to wear lipstick while wearing your aligners- it looks worse than when you put on lipstick and some is on your front teeth. Uggggg. Bev used Sun Bum Lip Balm, Liip Brand- natural and organic lip balm during the day while wearing the aligners. At night she used Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask or Kiehl’s Buttermask for Lips.
Thank you so much for taking time to read this post. Have a wonderful day!
