Who hasn’t stared into their closet full of clothes and made the statement, “I have nothing to wear.” We are envisioning arms shooting up in the air. We met Robin Jackson, a Nordstrom Personal Stylist at the Somerset Collection in Troy, MI, during one of our first ventures out shopping for jeans during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Robin was extremely helpful. With her exquisite style, her fun and engaging personality, she makes you feel like you are shopping with your friends. If you live in our area, we highly recommend you meet her.

Robin explained , “Our eyes typically go to what we already have in our closet, so when we shop that’s what we are drawn to.” She is great at selecting clothing choices that work for your personal style while gently nudging you out of your comfort zone. As a stylist, she has access to the entire store and curates a dressing room of items just for your individual look. The result is you shop only one room-your dressing room.

Like a great interior designer, a stylist’s talent is assisting the client with the style they are most comfortable with to help them feel confident in any situation. Never be intimidated to work with a personal stylist in regard to budget or body type. One of Robin’s highest compliments was, “I had a modest budget, but was treated like I had much, much more.”

There are many personal/professional stylists that are in our area here and most likely many urban areas. The benefit of this is they can work remotely and have access to numerous options.

Ask Your Friends If You Like Their Style

Ask your friends where they found their look, how they put it together and if they have a stylist they can recommend. It’s a great place to start.

What To Expect

So how does this thing work? First, this is a complimentary service provided by Nordstrom. With Robin, she sent us a questionnaire to fill out with sizes of all types of clothing, shoes and accessories. We included our husband’s information as well for future help with their wardrobe too. We then set up an appointment for selecting jeans and Robin set up a dressing room for each of us with various jeans and items to create many outfits. An in-person appointment helps Robin to get to know your style needs. If a clients time is limited, once an account is set up with Robin, she will create a style board and send it via text or email. A style board is a collage of clothing and accessories that Robin creates based on the client’s request. Each item on the board is directly linked to Nordstrom and is updated in real time- could be on Sale. The client simply purchases online or contacts Robin.

At the end of the day, you want to choose outfits that boost your confidence and are appropriate for your life and needs. Working with a stylist will help end the- “I Have Nothing To Wear Dread!”
