One Black Short Styled Six Ways

We have heard it time and time again that women over 50 should not wear shorts. There are certainly some shorts that we were happy to leave behind…remember Daisy Dukes and hot pants?? Haha! We strongly believe that women over 50 can wear shorts. You just have to find the right pair that flatters your particular body type. The inseam is king!!!! If you are tall (basically over 5’8). you should look for shorts that have an inseam around 8″ or more. If you are of moderate height like us an inseam of 7″ to 9″ would be a good place to start. Petites should look for shorts with a 3″ to 5″ inseam.

We went shopping and tried on a few shorts and found this short we are featuring today. The J Crew Sailor Pleated Short has a nautical feel to it. The fabrication is a linen/polyester blend and has a slight stretch. We really like the gold button detail too!

We came up with a few different ways to style this cute short and we are sharing those ideas below!

Black Short Style #1 and #2

Val paired her shorts with a simple eyelet off the shoulder top from Caslon. Her Eileen Fisher Espadrille Wedge Sandals are super comfortable for a day running around town. They are currently on sale too!

Black Short Style #3 and #4

Val styled her shorts with a shirt from Banana Republic. The shirt is no longer available but you can find one that is similar here. Bev styled her shorts with a black blazer with the same gold button detail as the shorts. A simple camisole underneath is all you need. Her slingback shoes are Vaneli Aliz. We love these shorts for their versatility. You can really dress them up or down depending on what your plans for the day are.

Val has on a flutter top that is striped and looks so good with these shorts. The Caslon Striped Tee is lightweight and fits true to size….Val is wearing a small.

Bev is wearing a cardigan sweater from J McLaughlin. This cardigan is so stylish…it is woven with tortoise buttons and a v neck. It is the perfect lightweight summer sweater. Her shoes are Easy Spirit Shirley Platform Wedge. Extremely comfortable but the light metallic upper sole really sold us.
