Our Favorite Shades Of Lipstick For The Spring!

Shopping for lipstick makes us feel like a kid in a candy store! We love picking out a brand new shade of lipstick especially in the spring and the fall. Shopping for lipstick can be confusing though with so many different formulations like matte lipstick, lipgloss or tints. A good. lipstick in our estimation should be hydrating, not too sticky when you are shopping for lipglosses and the right shade to compliment your skin tone. If your teeth tend to lean toward the yellow side of white a red lipstick might make your teeth more yellow looking and no one likes that! Sheer and satin lipsticks are more lightweight and reflect color unlike matte and creamier lipsticks which are heavier and have less shine. So much to think about but hopefully this post helps!

Lip Tips

Keeping our lips hydrated is key. Products that we love for nightime care are Tatcha The Kissu Lip Mask, Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, and Rodan + Fields Lip Serum. Products that we use if not using lipstick are Liip Brand All Day Lip Balm.

Yes! There are expiration dates for lip products- lip liner and lip sticks up to one year, lip gloss 18-24 months. We didn’t really know this and you can bet we cleaned out our makeup drawer!

Selecting Shades

Do you step up to any makeup counter and want everything you see? A few helpful tips will narrow down your choice. Select a shade that compliments your skin tone. A warmer skin tone- look for deep orange-brown hues. A cooler skin tone- look for blue hues- mauve or plum. Another trick to see if the shade is a match with your skin tone- twist the bullet so most of the lipstick is exposed, hold it sideways to obscure your lips while looking in the mirror. Nude lipsticks are very popular especially if you are uncomfortable with a bold lip. The sales associates usually can be very helpful in helping you choose a shade of lipstick you like so don’t be bashful!

What Val Likes

Val tends to like variations of the same shade!! I guess I really didn’t realize that until I saw my favorites all in this post! I also tend to gravitate toward Bobbi Brown….have always loved her lipsticks as they work well with my my natural lip tone. Hard to describe my color choice but I feel it is a cross between plum and brown with a hint of pink. I love to wear color on my lips because I feel as I get older I have lost color in my face and I feel a bolder lip helps! My favorite colors in the Bobbi Brown Luxe Lipstick line are Pink Cloud, Soft Berry, Pink Nude and Bahama Brown. Just found a beautiful spring shade from Tom Ford called Casablanca and Estate Lauder’s Pure Color lipstick in Candy. These colors definitely have me covered for the season!

After going through a year of Inivisalign, I am thrilled to be using lip liners, lip sticks and lip gloss again. I love the Charlotte Tilbury line. Love the refillable lipstick cases- they are so pretty and functional. My go to is Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk, Weddings Belles, or Dance Floor Princess topped with a swipe of Lip Lustre Lip Gloss in Blondie.
