Our Favorite Sunscreens for a Midwest Summer!!!

There are so many sunscreens on the market and it can be confusing choosing the right sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays that not only can be aging but can be dangerous for your health. We thought we would write this post to hopefully help with the confusion and share with you our favorite sunscreens that we personally use.

When shopping for a sunscreen there are certain terms you definitely want to pay attention to. Here is the list:

1.) Broad Spectrum: This means the sunscreen will protect you against UVB and UVA rays. You want to be protected against both to avoid burning and decrease signs of aging.

2.) SPF: This means sun protection factor! The professionals say you should choose a least a 30 SPF but the formulations are available in higher protection levels.

3.) Water Resistant: For people who spend time swimming or exercising in the sun this is a must! Make sure to look at the label to see how long the water resistant sunscreen will be effective. Waterproof and Sweatproof is NOT the same as water resistant. Some water resistant sunscreens are effective 40 minutes and others 80 minutes.

Here is the key….make sure you reapply every two hours for the best protection!!

COOLA and NEUTROGENA HYDRO BOOST

Coola is an organic formulation that is antioxidant rich and nourishing to the skin. Coola provides UVA/UVB protection and is water resistant too!! We love the tinted Mineral Liplux…the colors are sheer and they are SPF 30. Our lips need to be protected to avoid those dreaded lip lines. The Liplux is also water resistant. This is a wonderful company that is cruelty free to boot!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost is a Broad Spectrum Sunscreen that has UVA/UVB protection. The formulation is very hydrating and non greasy so you can wear it under your makeup!!!

SUPERGOOP!

Supergoop! Glow Screen creates a dewy look for your skin with all the additional benefits of SPF 40 and Broad Spectrum coverage. Glow Screen also has an added benefit of hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5 that leaves the skin supple and beautiful! A definite plus to over 50 skin. Supergoop! SUN BUM AND CLINIQUE

Sun Bum Original SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray has Broad Spectrum protection with Vitamin E for the skin. The scent is uber delicious!!!

Clinique Broad Spectrum sunscreen for the body is sensational! Clinique also has a sunscreen for the face in the same formulation. Clinique has developed a SOLARSMART technology which shields the skin against environmental hazards with an antioxidant boost.

The reality is we should be wearing sunscreen every day, especially on our face. A midwest winter sun can be just as intense!!! For those of us who like to walk in all seasons protecting our skin is important because skin is your largest organ! That said, doctors will instruct that we shouldn’t be afraid of some sun exposure, especially women in the northern and midwest climates. We don’t get as much sun as our southern friends. Vitamin D helps keep our bones strong and helps our bodies stay healthy!
