Updating Your Lip Color For Fall
- Beauty
- October 12, 2022
Summer to Fall transition isn’t only for your wardrobe- it’s also for your makeup too! Today we are sharing our favorite brands and colors for fall lips. Darker color tones are traditionally featured in fall makeup lines. If you aren’t out for a full lip color make-over and love the shades you wore for summer, look for a shade that’s a few shades warmer. Yes there are expiration dates for lip products- lip liner and lip sticks up to one year, lip gloss 18-24 months. We have found the best sharpener for makeup pencils is by Tweezerman.
Lip Tips
Our lips have different needs in drier, cooler weather. Keeping our lips hydrated is key for meeting this demand. Products that we love for nightime care are Tatcha The Kissu Lip Mask, Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, Rodan + Fields Lip Serum and Kiehl’s Buttermask For Lips. Products that we use if not using lipstick are Liip Brand All Day Lip Balm . Click on any of these products to link to their website.
Selecting Shades
Do you step up to any makeup counter and want everything you see? A few helpful tips will narrow down your choice. Select a shade that compliments your skin tone. A warmer skin tone- look for deep orange-brown hues. A cooler skin tone- look for blue hues- mauve or plum. Another trick to see if the shade is a match with your skin tone- twist the bullet so most of the lipstick is exposed, hold it sideways to obscure your lips while looking in the mirror.
The Red Lip
The Red Lip has been around since either 3500BC or Cleopatra’s time- either way this trend isn’t going away. However, it’s a trend that’s not always easy to pull off. The thing with red lipstick is it’s similar to jeans – you need to try many on. Key point– select the undertone of the lipstick to match the undertone of your skin. How do you do this- check the underside of your wrist. If your veins are more purplish then your undertone tends to be on the cool side. Stick to a blue tone red lipstick to bring out the white shade of your teeth.
The Minimalist
If you want just a bit of color or shine or moisture or SPF, a gloss might be your best choice. The selection is quite vast. Ask the make up specialist from your favorite makeup brand for direction.
What Val Likes
Val tends to like the same shade!! I guess I really didn’t realize that until I saw my favorites all in this post! I also tend to gravitate toward Bobbi Brown….have always loved her lipsticks as they work well with my my natural lip tone. Hard to describe my color choice but I feel it is a cross between plum and brown with a hint of pink. I love to wear color on my lips because I feel as I get older I have lost color in my face and I feel it a bolder lip helps! My favorite colors in the Bobbi Brown Luxe Lipstick line are Bond, Soft Berry, Pink Nude and Bahama Brown. I really like YSL Bold High Pigment Lipstick in Brazen Nude and recently purchased Charlotte Tilbury Hyaluronic Happiness Lipstick in Passion Kiss…just like the Bobbi Brown colors!!!! Shocking!!!
What Bev Likes
After going through a year of Inivisalign, I am thrilled to be using lip liners, lip sticks and lip gloss again. I love the Charlotte Tilbury line. I love the refillable lipstick cases- they are so pretty and functional. My go to is Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk, Wedding Belles or Dance Floor Princess and topped with a swipe of Lip Lustre Lip Gloss in Blondie. For the Red Lip- I’ve tried Killian Heaven Rouge Matte and Nars Red Square.
We had fun trying on a wide variety of the new fall shades at Nordstrom at the Somerset Collection in Troy, Michigan. Chase, a makeup specialist there helped us and made the whole experience even more fun! Thanks for your help Chase!!
Thank you so much for taking time to read this post. Have a wonderful day!
