Bella…My Little Buddy Says Goodbye

Bella

As I sit here and watch Bella breathe in and out…laboring as she tries to bring every breath into her little body I know that her time with us is at the end. Her health issues started close to a year ago but have become more difficult irregardless of the multiple medications she is on including her inhaler treatments administered twice a day. I visited the vet three months ago and she told me how sick Bella is….so unbelievable. I said to Bella’s vet, “Surely there is something you can do.” I already know the answer but I am not giving up. She tries to explain and uses the word “significant”. I am truly getting it now but we all want to remain positive. She says I need to consider the quality of her life which I always do. As my daughter says, “She is our princess…always was and always will be.” Our vet said you have to manage how she leaves this world instead of letting the disease control it. We were able to maintain her health at a place that would not make her uncomfortable. She LOVED to eat (partly steroid driven)…slept well..needed some help with going out for potty time. I am sure many of you have been in this same position and know just how painful this can be.

Bella was so tiny but descriptives many use to describe her are…Bossy…..Tiny yet Mighty…Hells Bells…Scrappy….Leader of the Pack. I could go on and on but you get the hint. She bossed her little brother Brutus around who is bigger than her. She even stole his food and he let her!!! This is until I figured it out of course! Make no mistake. Bella ran the show here! All twelve pounds of her.

Bella

Bella was a gift we will always cherish for the fourteen years we had her. My dear friend Bev (and cofounder of Seasons Embraced Blog) said she saw a quote that is perfect-

“Who ever said diamonds are a girls best friend never had a dog”. I agree…Dogs are a girls best friend!! My life has been changed forever because of my fur babies….past and present.

Love and Kisses to our little Bella

RIP 10-18-2021

Love,

Val

P.S. If anyone has any ideas on how to help Bella’s grieving little brother Brutus through this it would be greatly appreciated!
