Clothes To Wear In Hot Humid Weather

We love summer! Sunny days always seem to elevate our mood. If you like summer sports like golf and pickleball or maybe like to walk, the summer season makes participating in these sports more enjoyable. Who likes to golf when its cold out!!!? The summer is also a perfect time for travel and other exciting adventures.

Summer is great but it also comes with another problem at times. Hot and humid weather! This type of weather can make you uncomfortable, sweaty and quite frankly miserable! A bad hair day everyday because of the high humidity and warm weather.

Finding the right clothes that can help you stay cool and at the same time stylish can be tricky. This can be a problem even in the Midwest on certain days throughout the summer. Today we are sharing a round up of some outfits that can keep you cool but yet stylish even on the hottest days of the summer.

How To Dress in Hot Humid Weather

Tip # 1

Wear light color clothing….not dark color clothing

Try to dress in light colors like white, beige, light grays and blues. Choosing light colors such as pinks, greens and violet will also work. Black has always been one of our favorite colors but you may want to keep dark clothing to a minimum.

Tip # 2

Wear loose fitting clothing

Loose clothing like dresses and skirts are a good choice when dressing in hot and humid weather. Loose clothing will allow the air to flow rather than tight and restrictive clothing. Restrictive clothing will not allow the skin to breathe which it needs to do to keep you cool.

Tip # 3

Layering is helpful especially if you work in an air conditioned environment

Val always kept a couple neutral wraps and sweaters in her office when employed professionally. The air conditioning was brutal. If you have the same issue this is a good idea as you will be happy you did. Light layers such as a well fitting shell under a blazer or a cardigan sweater over a tank top or sleeveless top. A cardigan over a sundress or a sleeveless top and skirt is another way to stay comfortable.

Tip # 4

Try to dress in natural fibers

Natural fibers such as linen, cotton, chambray and rayon are the best. Breathable, lightweight fabrics are another positive choice to staying cool this summer.

Tip # 5

Going sleeveless or short sleeves will help with the heat

This goes without saying as you can always throw on a very lightweight jacket, cotton sweater or cardigan if you are unhappy with your arms. A sleeveless dress with a jacket is always a great look.

Tip # 6

Wear clothing made from moisture wicking fabrics

Look for clothing that absorbs moisture and wicks it away from your body. This will help keep your body temperature lower. Fabrics that achieve this are synthetic blends and also, merino wool. A thin merino wool tank top or sleeveless sweater paired with a cotton skirt will keep you comfortable and stylish looking.

What Clothes To Wear In Hot Humid Weather

Athleta Essential Tee Dress

When it is hot and humid outside this tee dress would be ideal. It is made of a lightweight Supima cotton that will breathe and not be clingy. It fits true to size and comes in sizes XXS to XL. It is a simple, clean lined tee dress but when it is super hot out you will appreciate this. The Athleta Essential T-Dress comes in a variety of colors and can be styled with tennies, sandals or espadrilles. We think this dress would look great with your favorite baseball hat.

White Maxi Dress

Clothes To Wear In Hot Humid Weather

A white maxi is another dress that would work on a hot and humid day this summer. Dresses that are 100% cotton or a cotton blend allows for breathability. We love a bias cut that allows for movement and side pockets. You can add color with a lightweight wrap similar to the above photo. Pair this dress profile with tennis shoes, sandals or espadrilles and you will be all ready to go! Protect your skin and wear a wide brimmed hat too. Click on more dress choices below.

Navy Maxi Dress

This dress is so pretty and feminine and will keep you cool when the hot weather shows up. The fabric is a cotton and linen. It is tiered and has pockets. We are true fans of pockets in dresses. The Tuckernuck Navy Mabel Maxi Dress has a swing silhouette which will allow for more breathability. This dress comes in size XXS to XXXL also. Pair with a pretty wedge sandal when going to lunch with friends. You can style with a sweater over the shoulders when indoors too. Below we have some additional choices.

Lightweight Skirts and Tops

Another outfit idea for hot and humid weather is a lightweight skirt and top. This outfit profile offers so much versatility. Val owns the above outfit- she found it while we were looking for vacation outfits for the summer. It is perfect for warm weather vacations. The eyelet detail and scalloped hem adds to this outfit. You can style this for a casual look with flat sandals or elevate it with a bit of a heel. We also added a favorite of ours from Madewell and this one from J. McLaughlin that Bev just purchased this year. Cotton Gauze is another lightweight material terrific for hot and humid weather. Click the photos below for outfit inspiration.

Linen Pants

Linen is a good fabric to wear when things get muggy! This pair, the J Crew Soleil Pant, is so stylish and chic. We see them paired with a tank top or a sleeveless top tied at the waist. A pair of flat sandals will keep you cool. We are featuring three other pairs of pants here with tops to go with them.
