Fine hair is a bit challenging and we know this because we both have fine hair. If you have fine hair you get this. But let’s face it, everyone deals with something when it comes to their hair. We have found some great products, accessories and hairstyles that work for our fine hair and we are happy to share.
What is fine hair? It is not thinning hair. Fine hair means each individual strand is smaller in diameter whereas thinning hair means there is just less hair no matter how thick your hair is. Fine hair is less dense hair. In addition, fine hair is more damage prone and can break more easily creating split ends which in turn makes your hair appear less full. Your fine hair is part of your genetics and you can’t do much about that part. However, with these fine hair products, accessories and hairstyles- your hair will look great.

Fine Hair Products
Zenagen Revolve Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner
Fine hair needs shampoos that have gentle ingredients and growth regeneration technology. Zenagen Revolve Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner are products that Bev has used for about a year now. You use this every other or third day and the conditioner is placed on the lower half of the scalp to prevent your hair from being weighed down. Click on any above photo for more information.
Nutrafol Shampoo and Conditioner
Nutrafol is a company whose products are dedicated to helping people with thinning hair. Neither of us have used this, however, it has many reviews and recommendations. Click on any photo above for more information.
Nutrafol Women’s Balance
Bev and Val have used the Nutrafol Women’s Balance for three months now and we both notice hair growth from this. A bonus is it helps strengthen nails too! The best results are seen after 3-6 months of use. Click on the above photo for more information.
Kerastase Densifique Bain Densite Shampoo and Conditioner
Val uses both of these products and she loves the volume that it adds. It adds density, strengthens the hair and deep cleans the hair. Click on any photo above for more information.
Kerastase Heat Protectants | Masques | Serums
We both use these heat protectants by Kerastase– when you use any heat on your hair this is important to use for fine hair.
Kerastase makes some wonderful masques. This masque is so lightweight- it leaves the hair feeling so soft and hydrated.
The Argan Oil Treatment is another great product for nourishing and hydrating your hair. This can be used on dry or towel dried hair. The Initialiste Advanced Scalp & Hair Serum strengthens the hair fibers and reduces breakage. This is used on cleansed, towel dried hair and for fine hair use less.
Kerastase Mousse | Dry Shampoo | Hairspray
Kerastase makes such amazing hair products for fine hair and both of these products are great. They never weight down the hair and they also have heat protectant.
The Fresh Affair Dry Shampoo is a best seller and we highly recommend it. It is silicone free and has a light scent. It doesn’t weigh down fine hair and extends your styled look.
We both love this hairspray-K Laque extreme. It locks in volume and hold without weighing down fine hair. Another plus is it is humidity resistant.
Color Wow Dream Cocktail Carb-Infused Treatment | Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer
As you might be able to tell, we are big fans of Kerastase products. We found this brand- Color Wow and we were thrilled with the results. The Dream Cocktail Carb-Infused Thickening Leave in Treatment leaves fine hair feeling like it’s thicker and easier to style. The Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer is a mouse type product- a little goes a long way. This also leaves fine hair feeling thicker and both of these products do not weigh down fine hair!!

Fine Hair Accessories
HairDryers | Brushes
If you use a hair dryer to dry your fine hair choose a good one that has settings for temperature adjustment and fan speed. The correct way to dry fine hair- towel dry hair, apply heat protector a few inches from the scalp, apply volumizer about three inches from the scalp and dry your hair with your head upside down using your fingers to detangle. Curl and style when hair is dry. Viola!
The brushes above are ones that Val’s stylist recommends and Val uses these exclusively. They are gentle on fine hair.
Curling Iron | Hot Rollers
The BaByliss curling iron is another recommendation from Val’s stylist and we both use them. Hot rollers are not recommended by some stylists because of their weight, they pull fragile fine hair. Bev uses some once in awhile- don’t tell the hair police.
Velcro Rollers | Foam Rollers
Velcro Rollers get a thumbs up for creating bouncy curls with out heat. Just remember to gently remove them. Bev does use these and attests to their reliability. Foam rollers are back and here’s a fun fact. Look for foam rollers that are covered in satin so they won’t dry out your hair. Sponge rollers have a tendency to do this.
Silk Scrunchies | Silk Pillowcases | Hair Towels
Silk Scruchies and Pillowcases are less damaging to fine hair. The Silk fibers are less absorbent and create less friction on your hair and skin.
The Super Hero Hair Towel and the Crown Affair Hair Towel are soft and light weight and gentle on wet, fine hair.
Fine Hair Hairstyles
For women with fine hair, there are hairstyles that are beautiful and flattering. Maintenance haircuts are a must to keep the your style looking full and healthy. Choose a cut that is easy to style and fits with your lifestyle. Some of the best chic hairstyles for fine hair are-
Textured Short Bob with Side Swept Bangs, Soft Rounded Bob, Short French Bob with Feathered Bangs, Pixie Cut or a Stacked Pixie Bob.
We included the photos below to showcase four additional styles.
Soft Shag
Val’s hairstyle is a soft shag. Soft and subtle layers add volume and texture. The face framing layers create more dimension for the hair. The shoulder length cut or shorter is one of the most flattering for fine hair. Val has thin hair, alot of it and a tiny bit of wave at the ends.
Side Part Bob
Our dear friend Debbie allowed us to use this beautiful photo of her with a Side Part Bob. The chin length looks so classic, fresh and gorgeous. Thank you Debbie for sharing this beautiful photo with us.
Shoulder Length With Side Part Bangs
Bev’s haircut is a shoulder length with side part bangs. With slight face framing layers this lifts the hair to look like there is some volume. This style has a bit of versatility. You can wear a pony tail or clip it up.
Long Layered Lob
Another dear friend and her name is Deb too! She has a Long Layered Lob gives her hair movement and bounce without taking away too much hair. Thank you Deb for sharing this beautiful photo of you with us.
We hope this has provided you with new information about fine hair.
