Training For A Half Marathon- What You Need
- Lifestyle
- August 10, 2022
In just a little over two months from now, Bev will be participating in her 11th Detroit Free Press Half Marathon. To clarify, she walks these things- pretty fast actually-but running or jogging- no. Every year so far there is a great group of family and friends that do this together. When you cross that finish line, those endorphins really kick in and you feel awesome. But to get to that point you do need to get some simple things and this post will help you with that.
First Steps- No Pun Intended
First of all decide what Half Marathon you’d like to do. Find out the specifics- is it hilly, flat, time requirements to finish, then register. To make sure you are physically ready, find a good training schedule like the one here and try to follow it. Your body will thank you for that.
What To Wear- Always This Right?
Shoes-
Bev’s preferred shoes are ON. They have been her choice for a few years now. If you need help choosing a brand, go to a store that is dedicated to sports and they can help. Try Gazelle Sports or Rei. Love them both.
Socks-
A great cushioned sock is key. Try either the Balega or Smartwool brands. They are very cushioning and wick moisture away.
Sunglasses-
Goodr are hands down Bev’s favorite for sports. While they are not fashion sunglasses, they do look good while being lightweight, durable and provide significant UV protection during the hours spent outdoors.
Headphones-
Aftershokz brand headphones embrace open air listening with bone conduction technology. Translation, you can listen to your jams and hear traffic or people coming up behind you. Safety first people!
Clothes- Yay!
Currently loving this tank by Athleta- The Foothill Tank. Looks cute and comfy either worn loose or tied in back. Other cute tank top options are Athleta’s Seasoft Tank Sweatshirt and the Breezy Twist Tank. The skirts and/or leggings that work best for training are ones that have side pockets on the legs. Try the Salutation Stash Pocket Tight-these also come in 7/8 and capri length. We love the olive green Ultimate Stash Pocket II Tight...great color for the fall! The Vienna Cargo Skort can double as another comfortable solution to walk in along with the Spanx Get Moving Skort.
Accessories-
Don’t forget a water bottle, hat and sunscreens – link here to our post on hats – link here for our post on sunscreens.
Let us know if this has inspired you to sign up for any organized walk, it doesn’t have to be a half marathon. Or if you are a marathoner, what are some of your favorite items.
