How To Make A Salad Ahead Of Time

Whether you are hosting a fall gathering or just planning ahead for a meal, there are some steps to take ahead of time that will help you bring it all together. Ina Garten is famous for her recipes and advice. Preparation and simple fresh foods are the best ingredients for salads and any other foods and meals you create. Reading through any recipe before you make it will give you a mental list of what ingredients are needed and what steps you need to take. Doing this will make any meal prep go smoothly.

Make The Dressing Ahead Of Time

Most of the dressings for the Fall salads we feature here are vinaigrettes made with Olive Oil, Apple Cider vinegar, Dijon Mustard and Maple Syrup. You can make this ahead of time and just shake before you serve.

Cook or Toast Any Items Before & Store

Does the recipe call for toasted walnuts, pecans or almonds? Toast these before, cool and store in an airtight container. Does the recipe call for bacon? Cook, cool and store in the refrigerator.

Rinse Greens

You can rinse any of the greens you will use in the recipe, spin dry in a salad spinner and store in the refrigerator. To save more time, place the greens in the salad serving bowl you will use and store in the refrigerator- we don’t recommend this with wooden bowls, though.

Chop Any Additional Items

If your recipe calls for additional chopped vegetables, do this ahead of time and store in the refrigerator. Many Autumn Salads call for sliced apples-to keep them fresh, slice right before you serve them.

Have All Serving Pieces Gathered

Have all of the serving pieces gathered before hand. Salad serving bowl, salad plates and salad servers are easy to pop on your counter and have ready.

We hope this helps with your Fall entertaining. Please let us know if you have a Fall recipe you could share.
