Is it just us or are there a million different types of jeans out there? It’s like the Tide aisle at Target, right? Let’s establish the fact that we love jeans. They are a classic staple for all seasons, making them one of the most versatile items in your closet. Don’t let the different styles of jeans confuse you. Understanding each kind of can help you choose which style is best for your body type to find the perfect pair. Today we are sharing a roundup of the different types we found.
What Are The Different Types of Jeans
We found the basic types of jeans fall into 5 categories. We included examples in each of these categories that range in price and brand. Some of the brands are a bit spendy, however, wear these jeans often and the per price wear becomes more value oriented- girl math! Let’s see what we found.
Wide Leg Jeans
Wide leg jeans flatter most body types- they balance proportions by adding volume to the lower body. The wide leg trouser jean is a very versatile choice as they work for casual and elevated looks. Slim fit jeans are good for apple, pear, hourglass, rectangle and inverted triangle body shapes. All of these slim fit choices have an ankle length hem- perfect for a summer sandal. How To Style Different Types Of Jeans
We have styled a pair of each of the different types for you to create outfits for your jeans. Some could be worn now and some could be worn into the fall and winter. Also, some of these items are included in the Nordstrom Sale. A gentle reminder- the sale ends on August 3rd.
Wide Leg Jean Outfit Inspo
The Paige Annessa Wide Leg Jean is the choice here. As we stated, a wide leg jean could be considered a trouser and that is how we styled this one. We added the jacket and carmel suede accessories to take this look into fall. The lightweight cashmere sweater is perfect for now and then. Click on the photos below for all details and information.
Bootcut/Flare Jean Outfit Inspo
The Mother Doozy Fray Hem Bootcut Jean is styled in the above photo. Flare and bootcut is narrower than the bell bottoms from decades ago. Western boots are on trend for the fall so we added this All Saints one. The Kate Shirt by Brochu Walker is one of our favorites and the Madewell Western Studded belt looks so similar to the one by Khaite at a fraction of the cost.

Barrel Leg Jean Outfit Inspo
The 7 for All Mankind Bonnie Barrel Jean is styled in the above photo. The barrel profile feels like a summer look. We found a top that has a closer fit to balance the large leg on the bottom and we love the red to add a pop of color. Click on any photo below for more information and details.
Straight Leg Jean Outfit Inspo
The Frame Ruler High Waist Straight Leg Jean is a high waisted profile to style like a trouser. This jean has a 32″ inseam- while it’s perfect for some- other’s may need to have the length shortened. Because it’s a straight leg, that is not a problem. We styled this for an early fall look with a crepe jacket from Aritzia and the resin jewelry from Sezane.
