Today’s blog post is about cardigan sweaters and how to style them. When the temperatures start to cool off, cardigan sweaters are the perfect wardrobe staple for looking stylish and keeping warm. A cardigan is so versatile you can use it as a sweater worn on it’s own, as a third piece to complete an outfit or as a layering piece to provide just a bit of warmth or coverage. They are made from an array of knits from very fine to chunky making them a cozy solution. We are sharing different ways to wear cardigans in colder weather or chilly environments.
How To Style A Cardigan
Styling a cardigan so that it looks fresh and modern takes some thought. As a wardrobe staple, there are many current cardigan styles to choose from-boyfriend, cropped, long, buttoned up, zipper- the outfit possibilities are endless. Chunky fabrics, unique necklines and button details can add a new look to a cardigan profile. We have a round-up of 12 cardigans that we found and are sharing them below. Please let us know in the comment section if you have a favorite in this group. We love hearing from you.
Cardigan Profiles
The Cable Knit Cardigan
The Cable Knit cardigan is an icon. This design speaks to comfort and quiet luxury and can be a year round item based on the fabric. The Endless Rose Cable Knit Cardigan is a chunky knit made from cotton and acrylic. The detail on the shoulder gives the appearance of a layered vest. The Tuckernuck Gray Cable Knit Cropped Arthur Cardigan is a favorite that looks great styled with a high waisted jean, pant, pencil skirt or dress. Click on the below photos for more information.
The Work Cardigan
If you need to add a third piece for a polished work look, these are it. The Maje Cape-Effect Cardigan is a statement item. This looks great styled down-however, we think this would look stunning over an ivory knit midi dress or a black faux leather midi skirt. We know it’s an investment – hey, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Another trusted look is the J. Crew Double-Breasted Sweater Jacket– a great cropped cardigan for your high-waisted clothing. If you are looking for a longer cardigan, consider Pistola’s Dani Patch Pocket Cardigan. This comes in three colors but don’t wait if this is what you want. Click on the photos below for more information.
The Winter Cardigan
Many cardigan’s could be placed here, but we felt this was the most versatile of all. The Barbour Marcy Colorblock Mixed Stitch Cardigan is a warm blend of wool, cashmere and synthetics. Barbour is known for their quality and style- Bev is a huge fan of their fair isle sweaters. The color palette of this sweater allows you to create outfits for days and definitely through three seasons. This would actually be a great travel piece as well. The Striped Cardigan
The Striped Cardigan is a fresh profile that works well in spring and summer. Style navy and white with denim, twill or linen. The Mango Eliote Crop Cardigan has an updated look with the boxy fit and gold button detail. The Lauren Ralph Lauren Stripe Belted Long Cardigan is another classic profile. The longer length, shawl collar and removable belt are some of the interesting details. This would look great styled with a white tank and a white trouser denim for early spring into summer. The Colorful Cardigan
Adding a pop of color to an outfit brightens everything. This spring and summer, color trends include red and green- think Wicked!. The Boden Alice Fluffy Stitch Cardigan comes in this great shade of green and a salmon pink. Both would make a statement. The sweater is a beautiful pointelle knit. Style with denim, white or ecru. The Alex Mill Chunky Cotton Cardigan is a classic design- round neck, slightly oversized with gold buttons. The brilliant red really makes it pop. Style with denim or white for an effortless yet stylish look. Click on the photos below for all the details.
The Spring and Summer Cardigan
Many of these cardigans can be worn in two, three or all seasons- yet we thought these would be perfect for spring and summer. The Avara Rebecca Cardigan has a touch of embroidery on the front and sleeves. Choose this piece to drape over the shoulders when spring arrives. Also, you can pair this with a light wash wide leg jean. The House of CB Rowan Balloon Sleeve Cardigan has a twist with the side buttons. Style this with a cami underneath and a midi skirt like this Frame Skirt or wear it over a midi dress like this M.M. LaFluer Toula Pointelle Dress.
