Thanksgiving Style Guide: Easy, Elegant Outfits for Every Occasion

As we are creating this post, Halloween is just a few days away. It is beautiful here in Michigan and fingers crossed for a Halloween where the weather is mild because we all know what is right around the corner- Thanksgiving!

Planning what to wear on Thanksgiving depends on a few factors. Are you the host, does your gathering include viewing football, are you going to someone’s home or out to dinner? Right now is a good time to put together an outfit that is stylish and comfortable- especially if you are hosting.

Both of us host Thanksgiving, thus posting this style guide right now. As you know, we enjoy finding the clothing items and accessories that help women put together outfits. We know how busy everyone is at this time of year (really, all year long-are we right?!) and having a few good outfits ready, makes life so much easier. Today’s blog post is a round-up of outfit ideas that include casual to elevated profiles for you to check out. Let’s see what we found!

Denim- A Casual Look That Never Goes Out Of Style

Denim is a wonderful starting point for a casual Thanksgiving outfit. It is comfortable, versatile, and easy to dress up or down depending on your plans. We love the current Grey Wash Denim because it creates a polished look. The Blue Denim pair has a stripe of brown faux suede down the leg. Similar to a pair we featured last year. Leopard prints and chocolate brown pair well with all of this. Bev has the Brown Mint Velvet Sweater in her cart. Pair these looks with a sweater or blazer too.

If football is the main attraction of your Thanksgiving celebration, throw on your team’s colors or jersey. Go Lions!

Casual Pants- Comfortable and Chic

If jeans are not your first choice, casual pants are another excellent option for Thanksgiving. They offer comfort and versatility while giving your outfit a slightly different look. We included the Lodge Pant by Aritzia in the crepette fabric in one of our favorite colors- olive green. This wide-leg pull-on pant is a huge favorite of many and we know why. It truly is a versatile and pulled together look. You can easily dress this up or down. The Modern Citizen Sweater in this beautiful blue shade brightens this look. We each have this sweater in another color and wear it on repeat- looks great with high-waisted wide leg pants.

Skirts-Feminine Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

Fall for Plaid

Depending on the fabric and silhouette, a skirt can feel relaxed enough for a casual meal or elegant enough for a more formal celebration. Midi skirts are especially versatile and easy to wear. This plaid skirt by Aritzia is high-waisted, with a back zipper and interesting side ruching in the front. We paired it with the Favorite Daughter Amelia top. Included in the carousel of photos above are two wonderful faux suede tops by Duffield Lane. Bev has the Rowe Top and Val has the Suede Mekenzie top- both are great.

We included the Pella Moda Imelde Slingback and the Dolce Vita Ravel bag– both in the chocolate suede. The Ravel Bag comes in a wonderful Faux Fur shade of grey that is amazing.

Two skirt profiles that are current right now are classics as well. The faux leather flared skirt by Joe’s Jeans is one you will have for years. Pencil skirts are another classic that is having a moment. We are featuring this one by Aritzia. The Fair Isle Sweater from J Crew is 100% cotton- yay for those with a wool sensitivity.

Honorable mention for the footwear- Ally Shoes. The Block Heel Bootie and the Slingback Mary Jane Kitten Heel are some of the most comfortable shoes we’ve worn. All of their footwear, especially their heels, are designed to be pain free after hours of wear. The good news- they are. Great news for those who want a heel for the holidays or any day. Dress Pants-An Elegant and Polished Look

When you want to look a little more dressed up without wearing a skirt or dress, dress pants are an excellent choice. Tailored trousers, wide-leg dress pants, and ankle-length pants can all work beautifully for Thanksgiving dinner. We featured a new favorite pair by Frame- Le Slim Palazzo Leopard Print Jean– it’s actually a jean with a trouser profile. We paired them with the Veronica Beard Miller Dickey Jacket. Both of these items are spendy- however, they would make a great gift for the upcoming holidays. Quince has a similar jacket- The Scuba Captain Convertible Jacket with insert as well at a very reasonable price.

Dresses-Easy and Elegant

Sometimes the easiest outfit is a dress. You have one main piece to style, and with the right shoes and accessories, you are ready for the occasion. For Thanksgiving, look for dresses in comfortable fabrics and flattering silhouettes.

Val has this dress from Marie Oliver and it is perfect for Thanksgiving and any occasion right now. The rich colors and the profile are fun to style with accessories and footwear. Wear this if you are invited to a Thanksgiving dinner. We included one of our favorite candle brands- Linnea and the scent Gather as a hostess gift suggestion.
